The given book, Civil Engineering Formulas is written by Tyler G Hicks,
who is an author and a consulting engineer. He worked in different plants operations and designs of various industries. He also taught in institutions of United States and other countries. He has written more than 100 books on engineering and other relevant fields.
In this
book, there are several chapters in which all the related formulas related to
civil engineering are compiled together.
In the very
first chapter, we will discuss the unit conversion and the conversion factors
used in all of the civil engineering fields.
Second
chapter include formulas related to beams, whether it is a continuous beam or
any other type.
Another
chapter includes formulas related to columns, where the introduction of the
columns is the main topic.
Chapter 4
provides us the piles and piling formula of all types.
In the next
chapter, we will have the concrete formulas. We will discuss about reinforced
concrete, water cement ratio in that, modulus of elasticity in concrete, tensile
strength of concrete, reinforced steel used within the reinforced concrete,
continuous beams and one-way slabs and their design, the deflection and crack
formulas ultimate and bearing strength of different types of beams including
rectangular beam, I-beam and T beams. Also, different types of slabs including
one-way and two-way slabs formulas will be provided.
Similarly,
in the last portion of this chapter, there is a brief discussion about walls
used in construction.
Chapter 6
includes formula related to timber engineering, where different types of
structural member composed of timber material are discussed and their formulas
are provided.
Surveying
formulas related to survey are discussed in chapter 7, where we will also
discuss different procedure using and surveying as well.
Geotechnical
engineering is also an important part of civil engineering and we will discuss
their
formulas in our chapter 8.
Chapter 9 is
one of the most important chapter in this chapter. We will discuss building and
structural formulas for various loads applied on building and different design
method. Some of them are load and resistant factor design, allowable stress
design and others. We will also discuss concrete structures, steel structure
and composite structure within this chapter.
Next chapter
includes formulas related to bridge and suspension cables.
Highway and
road formulas will be given in the next chapter which will be chapter 11 in
this course.
Chapter 12
includes waterworks and hydraulics related formulas within open channel and
closed channel. Flow in different types of weirs and their hydraulics
conditions will be the main topic.
Chapter 13
include environmental engineering issues and their formulas related to storm water,
sewage, sanitary and wastewater included.
